UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Junior Alexa Fisher (Powell, Ohio) knocked down a triple with three seconds left as Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team scored a 72-70 victory at Saginaw Valley on Wednesday afternoon.
The Panthers were down 70-69 with 13 seconds left and had the ball after SVSU missed two free throws. Fisher's trey from the left wing rolled around the rim and fell through to give ODU the lead, and the Cardinals missed a nearly full court heave as time expired.
Fisher finished the game with 25 points and matched career-highs with eight rebounds and six assists.
Sophomore Olivia Fox (Newark, Ohio) had a career-high 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting and freshman Kennedy Schlabach (Millersburg, Ohio) added 11. Freshman Alli Kern (Waterford, Ohio) scored 10 points off the bench as well.
There were eight ties and 11 lead changes in the game as the Panthers came back from a 12-point deficit midway through the second quarter. ODU trailed 38-26 at the five-minute mark of the period, but the Panthers kept SVSU off the board the remainder of the quarter and trimmed the deficit to five on Schlabach's late three.
The Panthers took their first lead of the second half on consecutive layups by Fox and Fisher, going in front 49-48 with 3:30 to play. Two free throws by Fisher in the final minute made it a 55-55 game with 43 seconds left.
Neither side had more than a four-point cushion in the fourth. Schlabach's jumper had put ODU on top 68-67 with 90 ticks left, but the Cardinals made three free throws on their ensuing possessions to take a 70-68 advantage with 50 seconds to play.
Fox made a free throw with 39 seconds left to make it 70-69.
