First Quarter Run Too Much For Women's Basketball To Overcome At Glenville State

GLENVILLE, W. Va. – A burst to close the first quarter was too much for Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team to overcome as the Panthers fell 116-88 at Glenville State on Wednesday.

On the road against a team that finished 31-2 last year, ODU had an 16-14 advantage at the 3:35 mark of the first quarter, but the Pioneers closed the quarter with a 17-0 to take a 31-16 lead.

ODU, who trailed by as much as 24 in the second quarter, was able to close to within 61-52 less than a minute into the third quarter, but the Pioneers were able to bump their lead back out to double figures and maintain it for the remainder of the contest.

Sophomore guard Angela Troyer (Sugarcreek, Ohio) led ODU with a career-high 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting, and she also pulled down six rebounds with two assists and two steals. Senior guard Alexis Overly (Chillicothe, Ohio) played all 40 minutes, making 9-of-13 shots for 20 points to go with eight rebounds and five assists.

Junior guard Hannah Clark (Glenmont, Ohio) added 17 points on 8-of-16 shooting and sophomore forward Olivia Fox (Newark, Ohio) tallied a career-high 12 points on 6-of-11 from the field.

The Panthers made 40-of-75 (53.3 percent) from the field and handed out 19 assists, but were hurt by 24 turnovers, which turned into 35 points for GSC. The Pioneers went 45-of-93 (48.4 percent) from the field and sank 15 three-pointers.

Ohio Dominican travels to Northwood for a 6 p.m. tip on Tuesday, Nov. 20.
