Women's Basketball Pulls Away From Battlers, 73-60

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A 19-6 run to close the game lifted Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team to a 73-60 home win over Alderson Broaddus on Thursday night in G-MAC play from Alumni Hall.

Sophomore Brittleigh Macaulay (Big Prairie, Ohio) went 8-of-10 from the field to score 19 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Also scoring 19 points for the Panthers (17-10, 13-8 G-MAC) was senior Darian Rose (Fort Loramie, Ohio), who pulled down seven rebounds and came away with four steals.

With just seven healthy players available, Rose played all 40 minutes of the contest, as did junior Alexis Overly (Chillicothe, Ohio) and sophomore Alexa Fisher (Powell, Ohio). Overly scored 11 points and handed out seven assists, while Fisher finished with 12 points and four steals.

Tied at 54 with eight minutes left, ODU went on its run. A layup by Macaulay and a jumper by freshman Angela Troyer (Sugarcreek, Ohio) forced an AB timeout, and Fisher would score a layup in transition to bump the lead to 60-54 with 6:37 to play.

The Battlers (7-18, 5-17 G-MAC) answered with a layup of their own, but senior Devin Conley (Danville, Ky.) found Overly open for a triple that she canned, and later, consecutive layups by Conley would bump the lead out to 68-58 with 1:40 left and put the game away.

The Panthers stepped up defensively in the second half, holding AB to just 25 points on 9-of-32 shooting (28.1 percent) in the final 20 minutes. ODU, meanwhile, shot 11-of-24 (45.8 percent) in the second half while also going 12-of-15 (80.0 percent) from the free throw line after intermission.

The first half was tight throughout, with ODU leading by as much as five on a pair of occasions and AB holding a pair of four-point leads as well. The Battlers were up 33-29 with three minutes to play in the first half, but a late three by Fisher would give the Panthers a 36-35 lead at the intermission.

ODU found itself down by four again in the fourth quarter at 42-38 but went on an 11-2 run, capped by a five-point play by Rose as she made a layup and was fouled and also earned a pair of technical free throws. She sank all three free throws to put ODU in front 49-44 with 1:19 left in the quarter, and the Panthers would take a 51-48 lead into the fourth.

Ohio Dominican concludes the regular season with a 3 p.m. tipoff against Davis & Elkins in Alumni Hall.
