Women's Basketball Scores Road Win At Davis & Elkins, 73-64

ELKINS, W. Va. – An 11-0 first quarter run gave Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team a lead they would not relinquish as the Panthers defeated Davis & Elkins 73-64 in G-MAC play Thursday night.

With the win, ODU improved to 10-5 (6-3 G-MAC), and the Panthers have now scored 70 or more points in their last eight contests.

Overall, Ohio Dominican shot 50.9 percent from the field (27-of-53) and also went 13-of-16 from the free throw line (81.3 percent). This is the third time this season ODU has shot at least 50 percent from the field.

Senior Sarah Futscher (Wilder, Ky.) led the Panthers with 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting while also grabbing eight rebounds. Her eight field goal makes match season and career-bests for the fifth time, and it's the fifth time this season she's scored at least 18 points in a game. Futscher entered the game leading the G-MAC in field goal percentage at 59.5 percent.

Junior guard Alexis Overly (Chillicothe, Ohio) added 12 points, four assists and three steals, while sophomore Brittleigh Macaulay (Big Prairie, Ohio) and senior Devin Conley (Danville, Ky.) each scored 11 points off the bench. Conley's scoring output was the best in her ODU career, while Macaulay pulled down a career-high nine rebounds as well.

ODU's defense limited Davis & Elkins to just 36.6 percent shooting (26-of-71) from the field and 21.2 percent from behind the arc (7-of-31).

The Panthers trailed 13-6 in the opening five and a half minutes of the game before coming to life late in the first quarter. Overly and Macaulay combined to hit six straight free throws, and a steal by Overly set up a triple from Conley to give ODU a 15-13 lead with 2:15 to play in the period. A steal and layup by Futscher closed the 11-0 run and gave ODU a 17-13 lead at the end of the first.

A three-pointer by junior Emily Thomas (Pickerington, Ohio) helped push the Panther lead to double figures at 30-20 with 3:58 to play in the second quarter, and ODU would take a 34-25 lead into the locker room.

A 9-0 run in the third quarter put the game away. Leading 42-36, Conley found senior Darian Rose (Fort Loramie, Ohio) for a three, and a layup by Futscher and another triple by Conley helped push the lead out to 51-36. ODU's lead would remain in double figures until the waning moments of the contest.
