COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Coming off an eight day break, Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team returns to the hardwood as the Panthers play host to No. 4 California (Pa.) on Wednesday before beginning G-MAC play Saturday at Ohio Valley.
In their last outing, the Panthers scored a 77-56 regional victory over visiting Saginaw Valley on Tuesday, Nov. 21. ODU led by as much as 31 points in the second half in that contest and outscored SVSU 51-29 in the second and third quarters to break open the game.
ODU's defense forced a season-high 25 turnovers and limited the Cardinals to just 16 made field goals and 33.3 percent shooting in the contest. The last time the Panthers held an opponent to less than 20 made field goals was Dec. 8, 2016 in a 61-49 win over Northern Michigan, and that was also the last time ODU forced at least 25 turnovers in a game. The field goal percentage defense was the best in a game since the Panthers limited West Liberty to 30 percent shooting on Nov. 15, 2016 in an 84-67 victory.
ODU and Cal have met once as Division II opponents as the host and then fifth-ranked Vulcans picked up a 93-69 win over the Panthers on Nov. 22, 2016. The Panthers trailed just 41-37 at halftime in that contest.
This is the first matchup between ODU and Ohio Valley since Jan. 3, 2011, which was a 64-58 win for the Fighting Scots.
