No. 10 - Women's Quartet Cracks 1,000 Points And Kills
An accomplished senior class in the sports of women's basketball and volleyball reached impressive milestones in the 2016-17 season, with the volleyball duo of Jackie Oestreich and Tory Thompson surpassing 1,000 career kills and the women's basketball tandem of Lauren Bates and Madi Rittinger breaking the 1,000 point barrier.
Oestreich concluded her four-year Panther career with 1,125 kills, which is the 12th best mark in program history. She ranks third in ODU history with a .292 attack percentage. Oestreich was also a force defensively, sitting ninth in ODU history with 318 total blocks, and ranking tied for sixth with 0.95 blocks per set.
Thompson closed out her career with 1,344 kills, which is ninth in ODU history, and her 3.12 kills per set are the seventh-best total. She also recorded 1,295 digs, which is 10th in school history, and she is just one of three players in program history to rank in the top 10 in both kills and digs.
Bates finished her career with 1,089 points, good for 19th on the all-time ODU list. She also finished her career with 221 steals, which is fifth in program history, and she sits eighth in career assists (277), ninth in field goal percentage (46.6) and 12th in field goals made all-time (443).
Rittinger capped her career by scoring 1,147 points, grabbing 701 rebounds and blocking 200 shots. She ranks 15th in ODU history in points, eighth in rebounds and third in blocked shots. Her 455 field goals made are 10th in school history and her 47.1 field goal percentage is eighth.
