ASHLAND, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team suffered a 101-62 setback at No. 1 Ashland on Thursday night in GLIAC play.
With the loss, ODU fell to 10-6 (5-4 GLIAC), while the Eagles improved to 17-0 (9-0 GLIAC).
The Panthers hung close early, as senior Lauren Bates (Hilliard, Ohio) rolled home a three to tie the score at 8-8 in the first quarter. After a 12-0 run by Ashland gave the hosts a 22-10 lead, the Panthers scored six straight, capped by a left-handed layup from senior Lindsey Blanford (Xenia, Ohio) later in the quarter.
Ashland, though, outscored ODU 31-9 in the second quarter to take a 55-25 lead at the half.
Senior Madi Rittinger (Dayton, Ohio) finished with 16 points, becoming the 21st player in program to surpass 1,000 career points. She now has 1,008 career points. Rittinger also grabbed a season-high 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the year.
Junior Sarah Futscher (Wilder, Ky.) came off the bench to score 11 points with seven rebounds, and freshman Jessica Boerger (Fort Loramie, Ohio) had nine points with 10 rebounds off the bench. Senior Tori Beth Leader (West Portsmouth, Ohio) scored nine points with five rebounds and a season-high four assists off the bench as well.
ODU finished with a 51-44 rebounding edge, its fourth time grabbing at least 50 rebounds in a game this season. But Ashland finished 39-of-81 from the floor (48.1 percent) while the Panthers shot just 32.1 percent, and ODU coughed the ball up 31 times.
Ohio Dominican returns home to host Tiffin at 1 p.m. Saturday in Alumni Hall.
