UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. — Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team dropped a 76-66 road GLIAC contest at Saginaw Valley on Sunday afternoon.
The Panthers (7-5, 3-3 GLIAC) held the Cardinals (8-2, 4-1 GLIAC) to 14.1 percent shooting from three-point range (2-of-14) and outscored SVSU in bench points, 24-10.
SVSU held a decisive edge from the free throw line, going 30-of-38 (78.9 percent) compared to just 9-of-15 (60 percent) for Ohio Dominican.
The Panthers were led by senior Lauren Bates (Hilliard, Ohio), who scored 22 points and grabbed five rebounds. Senior Tori Beth Leader (West Portsmouth, Ohio) recorded 13 points off the bench and senior Madi Rittinger (Dayton, Ohio) chipped in with 10 points and two blocks.
ODU trailed 10-2 with 4:00 remaining in the first quarter, when Rittinger connected on a layup to spark an 11-2 run for the Panthers. Bates hit a free throw with 34 seconds to go in the quarter, giving the Panthers their first lead of the game, 13-12.
After trailing 23-22 with 4:00 to go in the second quarter, ODU outscored the Cardinals 13-8 for the remainder of the half to take a 35-31 lead into the break.
But the Cardinals outscored the Panthers 45-31 in the second half, taking the victory, 76-66.
Ohio Dominican will look to get back in the win column when it travels to Southern Indiana for its next game on Friday, December 30.
