Women’s Basketball Uses 11-3 Run To End Game And Earn 69-68 Win Over Wayne State

DETROIT, Mich. — Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team ended its game against Wayne State on an 11-3 run over the final 3:34 to score a 69-68 road victory over the Warriors on Thursday night.

Trailing 65-58 with 3:34 to go, senior Madi Rittinger (Dayton, Ohio) connected on a jump shot to spark what would become an 11-3 run to end the contest for Ohio Dominican. Sophomore Darian Rose (Fort Loramie, Ohio) hit a three-pointer just 24 seconds later, pulling the Panthers to within two, 65-63 with 3:10 to go.

After a made free throw by Wayne State to increase its lead to 66-63 with 2:38 to go, Rittinger connected on a jump shot at the 2:14 mark to cut the Warriors' lead to just 66-65.

Then with 32 seconds remaining, junior Megan Eyre (Fayetteville, Ohio) drove the lane and was fouled in the act of shooting, knocking down both free throws to give the Panthers a 67-66 lead.

On the Warriors' next possession, senior Lauren Bates (Hilliard, Ohio) collected her eighth rebound of the night after a Wayne State miss, and Lindsey Blanford (Xenia, Ohio) made two free throws on the other end to give ODU a 69-66 lead with 12 seconds left.

Wayne State connected on a made layup as time expired, but it would not be enough, as the Panthers earned their seventh victory by a final score of 69-68.

Ohio Dominican 7-4 (3-2 GLIAC) held Wayne State to just 39.4 percent shooting for the game, limiting the Warriors to 4-of-18 shooting from three-point range (22.2 percent) while also outscoring WSU 19-9 in second chance points.

ODU was led by Rose, who finished with 15 points on 3-of-4 shooting from three-point range. Bates finished with 13 points, eight rebounds and five steals. Junior Sarah Futscher (Wilder, Kentucky) recorded 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting off the bench.

Rittinger chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds, and Blanford finished with six points and nine rebounds for Ohio Dominican.

The Panthers will look to extend their winning streak when they travel to Saginaw Valley for their next contest on Sunday at 1 p.m.
