COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior Justin Carroll (Berea, Ohio), the first Ohio Dominican student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, will compete in the prelims of the 800 meters at 6:05 p.m. Friday at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte.
The top-eight runners from the prelims will advance to the finals, which are scheduled for 5:05 p.m. on Saturday.
The 800 will be a highly competitive race, as Carroll enters with the 15th best qualifying time in the nation with a mark of 1:50.24, though less than one second separates him from one of the top-eight marks in the nation. Last year, his time would have been good for fourth in the country at the championships.
Carroll has improved throughout the course of the spring. He first ran the 800 on March 31 at Cedarville, registering a mark of 1:55.31, and dropped over five seconds in the event over the following five weeks.
His 1:50.24 came in the G-MAC Outdoor Championship and set both the conference and ODU record, and it was the second-best time of any runner in the Midwest Region this spring.
