ALLENDALE, Mich. — Ohio Dominican freshman Anthony Woods (Macedonia, Ohio) topped his school record in the men's 100 meter dash with a preliminary time of 10.53 to advance to final round competition, while junior Justin Carroll (Berea, Ohio) bested his school record in the men's 800 meter run with a finish of 1:54.15 to lead ODU track and field on second day competition at the GLIAC Track and Field Championships at Grand Valley State University on Thursday.
Woods' time of 10.53 was the fastest preliminary time for the field of 26 competitors. Woods originally set the school record in the men's 100 at Walsh on April 15 with a time of 10.56. Both sprints are NCAA Division II provisional marks and his time of 10.53 is tied for the 33rd fastest sprint in NCAA Division II.
In addition to his school record sprint in the 100, Woods finished with the second-fastest preliminary time in the men's 200 with a finish of 21.52. He will also run in the men's 200 meter final on Friday.
Carroll finished with the fifth-fastest preliminary time out of 27 runners in the men's 800 meter run after turning in a school record time of 1:54.15. Carroll finished third in the men's 800 at the GLIAC Championships in 2016 with a run of 1:55.56.
Sophomore Wes Pipher (Attica, Ohio) continued to improve on his school record time in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase with a run of 9:33.06 to finish sixth out of 21. Pipher bested his previous school record time of 9:40.47, which he recorded at the Otterbein Twilight Invitational on April 15.
In the field for the men, freshman Draven Bass (Circleville, Ohio) finished seventh in the long jump with a distance of 6.71 meters. His jump marked the third-longest distance of the season for the Panthers in the event.
For the women, senior Shakita Kabicek (Brook Park, Ohio) finished the women's 800 in 2:24.69, the fastest women's 800 time of the season for Ohio Dominican. Kabicek holds the school record in the event with a time of 2:22.01.
Freshman Shaunqueza Stevens (Dublin, Ohio) matched her personal best in the women's 200 meter dash preliminaries with a finish of 26.22. Stevens' times of 26.22 are the best on the season in the women's 200 for ODU.
Carroll and Woods will both compete in final round competition at the GLIAC Championships on Friday. Carroll will run in the men's 800 final at approximately 12:25 p.m., while Woods will also seek to bring home GLIAC crowns in the men's 100 and 200 meter dashes, which are scheduled to run at 12:15 p.m. and 12:55 p.m.
