Bass, Pipher Set School Records In Men’s Long Jump & 3000 Meter Steeplechase For Track And Field At Otterbein Twilight Invitational

WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Ohio Dominican freshman Draven Bass (Circleville, Ohio) set the Ohio Dominican outdoor track and field school record in the men's long jump with a distance of 6.90 meters, sophomore Wes Pipher (Attica, Ohio) finished the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase in school record time of 9:40.47 and overall, ODU track and field recorded six, first place finishes at the Otterbein Twilight Invitational on Friday.

Overall, the men's squad finished in a tie for first place with 96 points and the women's team notched a top 10 finish with 22 points. Ohio Dominican saw competitors take top honors in six different events, including Bass and Pipher, who each established new school records for the Panthers while finishing first in the men's long jump and 3,000 meter steeplechase.  

The men's 4x100 meter relay team powered its way to a first-place finish with a run of 42.77. Junior Kendall White (Cincinnati, Ohio), senior Spencer Lester (Akron, Ohio), freshman Isaiah Smith and junior Avery Sumpter (Lima, Ohio) led the Panthers to top honors in the 4x100 for the third time this season. Smith also led the Panthers to a first place finish in the men's high jump with a jump of 1.86 meters.

Also claiming a first place finish for the Panthers was junior Justin Carroll (Berea, Ohio), who took top honors in the men's 800 with a time of 1:55.71, the second-fastest outdoor time in the 800 this year for Ohio Dominican.

Freshman Cam Brandon (Cleveland, Ohio) established a new personal best in the men's 110 meter hurdles, finishing in 15.54. Freshman Tre Smith (Cleveland, Ohio) also set a new personal best in the 110 hurdles with a finish of 15.67.

Finishing strong in the men's 5,000 meter run was senior Andrew Beier (Bellevue, Ohio), who finished fourth out of 26 runners with a time of 15:42.40. Beier set the school record in the 5,000 earlier this spring with a run of 15:30.90.

For the women's squad, senior Shakita Kabicek (Brook Park, Ohio) took sixth out of 36 runners in the women's 800 with a personal best time of 2:25.13. Also recording a personal best was freshman Shaunqueza Stevens (Dublin, Ohio), who finished in 26.37 in the women's 200. Freshman Bryanna Barber (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) took 15th in the event with a personal best time of 27.10.

Setting a personal best in the women's hammer throw was freshman Emma Barth (Dayton, Ohio), who took seventh out of 29 throwers with a distance of 41.20 meters.

Ohio Dominican will look for continued success next weekend when it competes in the Ashland Invitational on Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29.
