Woods Sets School, Meet Records In Men’s 100 Meter Dash; Barth Bests School Record In Women’s Discus To Lead Track And Field At Walsh

NORTH CANTON, Ohio — Ohio Dominican track and field freshman Anthony Woods (Macedonia, Ohio) set the school and meet records in the men's 100 meter dash with a time of 10.56, while freshman Emma Barth (Dayton, Ohio) bested her outdoor school record in the women's discus throw with a distance of 34.91 meters to lead ODU track and field at the Walsh Invitational on Saturday.

Woods took first place in the men's 100 in 10.56, marking the third, first place finish for Woods in the 100 this spring. His time of 10.56 is an NCAA Division II provisional mark and is tied for the 26th-fastest time in NCAA Division II.

Barth took 12th in the discus throw, besting her previous school record in the event of 34.34 meters.

Freshman Draven Bass (Circleville, Ohio) recorded a third place finish out of 20 competitors in the men's long jump with a distance of 6.39 meters.

Also in the field for the men, sophomore Clayton Seymour (Ashville, Ohio) recorded an eighth place finish in the men's shot put with a personal best distance of 14.26 meters. Seymour also finished in the top half of the field in the men's discus throw, finishing 12th out of 25 with a distance of 39.45 meters.

Junior Justin Carroll (Berea, Ohio) took second place in the men's 800 with a run of 1:56.08. Carroll has finished second in the 800 twice this spring and took first place at the NCW Seahawk Invitational on March 11 with a time of 1:55.35.

Finishing fourth in the men's 400 meter hurdles was freshman Tre Smith (Cleveland, Ohio), who established a personal best in the event with a time of 57.95.

The men's 4x100 meter relay team of freshmen Cam Brandon (Cleveland, Ohio) and Woods, junior Avery Sumpter (Lima, Ohio) and senior Taylor Williams (Houston, Texas) earned a fourth place finish with a time of 42.28. Brandon led the men's squad in the 110 meter hurdles with a personal best time of 15.60 to take sixth.

Setting a new personal best in the men's 1500 was junior Chad Ellis (Brook Park, Ohio), who took eighth out of 50 in the men's 1500 in 4:09.03. Senior Andrew Beier (Bellevue, Ohio) finished 11th in the event with a time of 4:14.78.  

Senior Spencer Lester (Akron, Ohio) set a personal best in the men's 100 meter dash with a finish of 11.23 to take 11th out of 37.

For the women, junior Jalyn Devereaux (Carroll, Ohio) picked up her second top 10 finish of the spring in the women's 1500, using a time of 5:03.82 to take 10th. Freshman Hannah Peltier (Marion, Ohio) recorded a personal best in the 1500 with a run of 5:06.05 to finish in 12th place out of 55 runners.

Freshman Shaunqueza Stevens (Dublin, Ohio) recorded the top time of the season for ODU in the women's 100 meter dash, finishing in 12.71 to take 10th place. Stevens also took 14th in the women's 200 with a time of 26.22. Freshman Bryanna Barber (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) established a personal best in the 100 and finished 12th out of 27 with a time of 12.85, and also took 15th in the 200 with a personal best finish of 26.42.

Finishing eighth in the women's 800 was senior Shakita Kabicek (Brook Park, Ohio), who finished in 2:26.13. Devereaux took 15th out of 43 with a time of 2:29.94.

ODU will be in action again this Friday, April 21 at the Otterbein Twilight Invitational.
