Beier Sets School Record In Men’s 5000, Woods Takes First In Men’s 100 Meter Dash Finals For Track And Field At Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Ohio Dominican senior Andrew Beier (Bellevue, Ohio) topped his own school record in the men's 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:30.90 and freshman Anthony Woods (Macedonia, Ohio) took first place honors in the men's 100 meter dash finals at the Otterbein April Fools Invitational on Saturday at Otterbein University.

Overall, the men's squad took third out of 10 competing teams with 95 total points.

Beier took third place in the 5000 and bested his previous school record time of 15:42.35. Woods finished in 10.88 in the men's 100 finals to finish first. Finishing fourth in the men's 100 was junior Avery Sumpter (Lima, Ohio), who recorded a time of 11.28. Sumpter recorded the fourth-fastest qualifying time out of 27 runners at 11.12.

The men's 4x100 meter relay team of freshman Draven Bass (Circleville, Ohio), Woods, freshman Cam Brandon (Cleveland, Ohio) and senior Taylor Williams (Houston, Texas) finished second out of eight competing teams with a time of 42.59. The men's squad also saw the 4x400 meter relay team of Bass, junior Kendall White (Cincinnati, Ohio), Sumpter and junior Justin Carroll (Berea, Ohio) take second place with a finish of 3:26.03. Carroll also finished second out of 23 runners in the men's 400, finishing in 1:58.07.

Brandon took fourth in the men's 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.72, while freshman Tre Smith (Cleveland, Ohio) finished just behind in fifth place, finishing in 16.04.

Sophomore Wes Pipher (Attica, Ohio) took fourth place out of 11 runners in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase, finishing in 10:01.03.

Junior Chad Ellis (Brook Park, Ohio) finished with a strong performance in the men's 1500, taking third place out of 23 runners with a time of 4:14.17.

In the field for the men's squad, freshman Isaiah Smith finished in a tie for third out of 13 competitors in the high jump with a height 1.85 meters. Bass also recorded a third place finish, using a distance of 6.85 meters in the men's long jump to take third place. Sophomore Clayton Seymour (Ashville, Ohio) recorded another strong showing in the men's shot put, taking eighth out of 27 throwers with a distance of 13.55 meters.

For the women's squad, freshman Bryanna Barber (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) recorded a fifth place finish in the women's 100 meter dash finals with a time of 13.08. Freshman Shaunqueza Stevens (Dublin, Ohio) took sixth place in the event with a finish of 13.25.

Senior Shakita Kabicek (Brook Park, Ohio) finished strong in the women's 800 with a time of 2:26.98, good enough to take third place out of 29 runners.

Ohio Dominican will compete again on Saturday, April 15 when it travels to North Canton, Ohio for the Walsh University Invitational.
