WILMINGTON, N.C. — Ohio Dominican junior Justin Carroll (Berea, Ohio) took first place out of 68 runners in the men's 800 meter run with a time of 1:55.35, while senior Taylor Williams (Houston, Texas) and freshman Anthony Woods (Macedonia, Ohio) advanced to the men's 100 meter dash finals on day one competition at the University of North Carolina Wilmington Seahawk Invitational on Friday.
Carroll holds the outdoor school record in the men's 800 with a run of 1:54.22 last season at the Ashland Alumni Invitational on April 30, 2016. He recorded two top five finishes in the 800 during the indoor season.
Williams and Woods both advanced to the men's 100 meter dash finals, finishing with the third and fourth-fastest qualifying times out of 67 runners. Williams recorded the third-fastest qualifying time at 10.91, while Woods established an outdoor personal best in the event with a mark of 10.92. Both runners will compete in the men's 100 meter dash finals on Saturday at approximately 3 p.m.
Senior Andrew Beier (Bellevue, Ohio) finished 21st out of 57 to lead ODU in the men's 5,000, recording a time of 16:08.74.
The women's squad was led by sophomore Imani Stepney (Columbus, Ohio), who recorded a personal best in the women's 100 meter dash with a time of 12.95 to finish with the 24th-fastest time out of 70 runners. Freshman Shaunqueza Stevens (Dublin, Ohio) established a personal best in the event and finished 30th with a sprint of 13.17, while freshman Bryanna Barber (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) also established a personal best, finishing in 13.18 to place 31st.
Also finishing strong for the women's team was senior Shakita Kabicek (Brook Park, Ohio), who placed 36th out of 70 in the women's 800, finishing in 2:34.16.
Freshman Cassidy Long (Canal Winchester, Ohio) established a personal best in the women's 5,000, finishing 16th out of 32 runners in a time of 20:43.51.
In the field for ODU, freshman Emma Barth (Dayton, Ohio) recorded a distance of 36.21 meters to finish 17th out of 33 in the hammer throw in her first outdoor event as a Panther. Sophomores Connor Cooley (London, Ohio) and Clayton Seymour (Ashville, Ohio) finished 17th and 18th respectively in the men's hammer throw with distances of 35.94 and 35.51 meters.
Ohio Dominican will continue competition in the UNCW Seahawk Invitational on Saturday, with field events beginning at 9 a.m. and running events starting at 11 a.m.
