COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's track and field team will travel to Wilmington, North Carolina this weekend for the 2017 University of North Carolina-Wilmington Seahawk Invitational, which will span Friday, March 10 and Saturday, March 11.
The event marks the first outdoor event of 2017 for ODU track and field, and overall the squad is scheduled to compete in seven outdoor events this spring.
A total of 34 Panthers will be competing in events this weekend. The team is coming off a successful indoor season that saw a total of four Ohio Dominican men's and women's indoor track and field records set. Freshman Anthony Woods (Macedonia, Ohio) set the men's indoor school record in the 60 meter dash with times of 6.85 at Tiffin on February 11 and at the GLIAC Indoor Championships on February 26. Junior Justin Carroll (Berea, Ohio) also set an indoor record for the men's squad this winter, finishing in 37.47 in the men's 300 at Tiffin on December 3.
The women's team also saw two indoor records set this winter. Freshman Bryanna Barber (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) set a women's indoor record in the 300 with a time of 46.55 at Tiffin on December 3, and senior Shakita Kabicek (Brook Park, Ohio) set a new indoor record in the women's 1,000, finishing in 3:09.62 at Mount Union on February 4.
In 2016, ODU track and field closed the outdoor season with a strong showing at the GLIAC Championships. Nicole Brown set the outdoor school record in the women's 5,000, placing fifth with a run of 18:21.43, marking the highest finish for an Ohio Dominican women's track and field athlete at the GLIAC Championships in school history. Carroll also recorded a strong showing, finishing third in the men's 800 with a run of 1:55.56.
Following competition at the UNCW Seahawk Invitational, the Panthers will compete in the Muskingum Invitational at Muskingum University on Saturday, March 25.
