FINDLAY, Ohio — Ohio Dominican sophomore Wes Pipher (Attica, Ohio) finished in 8:57.83 to establish a new indoor school record in the men's 3000 meter run and lead ODU track and field on day two of the 2017 GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Findlay on Sunday.
Pipher finished less than one second off school record time in the 3000 at Mount Union on February 4, but used his time of 8:57.83 to finish 17th and establish a new personal best and school record in the event.
Finishing strong for the women's squad was junior Jalyn Devereaux (Carroll, Ohio), who recorded the fastest time of the season for the Panthers in the women's 800 meter run, finishing in 2:21.88. Senior Shakita Kabicek (Brook Park, Ohio) recorded her best finish this season in the 800 with a time of 2:24.80.
ODU saw solid contributions from freshman Shaunqueza Stevens (Dublin, Ohio), sophomore Imani Stepney (Columbus, Ohio), freshman Bryanna Barber (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and junior Ryanna Reid (Columbus, Ohio), who recorded the best women's 4x400 meter relay time of the season for the Panthers, finishing in 4:15.10.
Freshman Cassidy Long (Canal Winchester, Ohio) set a personal best in the women's 3,000 meter run with a time of 11:52.65, the top time in the event on the indoor season for Ohio Dominican.
In the field for the women's squad, ODU was led by freshman Emma Barth (Dayton, Ohio), who recorded her second-best distance of the year in the shot put with a throw of 9.74 meters. Freshman Alexis Kefauver (Whitehall, Ohio) matched a personal best in the event with a distance of 9.33 meters.
The men's squad was led by junior Justin Carroll (Berea, Ohio), who finished sixth out of 25 in the men's 800 with a time of 1:56.19, his fastest time in the 800 for the indoor season. Sophomore Bobby Bogantz (Sunbury, Ohio) recorded a personal best in the event, crossing the finish line in 1:58.35.
Freshman Anthony Woods (Macedonia, Ohio) took sixth in the men's 60 meter finals, finishing in NCAA provisional mark time of 6.89. Woods matched his school record time of 6.85 in the 60 meter preliminaries on Saturday.
The men's 4x400 meter relay time finished in its fastest time of the year, as freshman Draven Bass (Circleville, Ohio), senior Spencer Lester (Akron, Ohio), Carroll and Woods combined for a final time of 3:27.28 to take seventh.
Junior Chad Ellis (Brook Park, Ohio) ran a 4:26.38 in the men's mile, the fastest mile team of the season for the Panthers.
ODU track and field will look forward to its 2017 outdoor season when it travels to Wilmington, North Carolina on Friday, March 10 and Saturday, March 11 for the NCW Seahawk Invitational.
