Track and Field Travels to Tiffin On Saturday for Dragon Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio ­­– Ohio Dominican's track and field team is set to compete in the Tiffin Dragon Invite at Tiffin University's Heminger Center on Saturday.

Events will begin with the women's pentathlon at 8:30 a.m. Field events start at 12 p.m. with the women's weight throw, and running events also begin at 12 p.m. with the men's distance medley relay.

The Panthers competed in the Jim Wuske Invitational at the University of Mount Union last Saturday, which was highlighted by senior Shakita Kabicek (Brook Park, Ohio) setting the school record in the women's 1,000 meter run with a time of 3:09.62. Kabicek finished in fifth place out of 27 competitors in the event.

ODU also saw first place finishes by sophomore Wes Pipher (Attica, Ohio) and freshman Anthony Woods (Macedonia, Ohio). Pipher finished first out of 27 competitors in the men's 3,000 meter run, posting a time of 8:58.82, while Woods took first in the men's 60 meter dash in 6.95. Woods ranks ninth in the GLIAC in the 60m with a time of 6.93, which he ran at the YSU College Invite earlier this year. He is joined in the top 20 by junior Avery Sumpter (Lima, Ohio), who ranks 19th in the conference with a time of 7.05 seconds.

In other GLIAC rankings, both junior Justin Carroll (Berea, Ohio) and sophomore Bobby Bogantz (Sunbury, OH) rank in the top 25 in the 800m, ranking 15th and 24th respectively. Freshman Tre Smith (Cleveland, Ohio) ranks 20th in the conference in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.77.

In the field, freshman Draven Bass (Circleville, Ohio) ranks seventh in the GLIAC in the long jump, with his top distance coming at the Jessica Starks Open on January 28, where he recorded a distance of 6.86 meters.

On the women's side, junior Jalyn Devereaux (Carroll, Ohio) currently ranks 19th in the conference in the 800m with a time of 2:22.07. Freshman Cassidy Long (Canal Winchester, Ohio) ranks in the top 25 in the GLIAC for the 5000m with a time of 21:38.34.

So far this season, three school records have been set and overall 74 personal bests have been realized by ODU track and field student-athletes.

Following competition at Tiffin this weekend, Ohio Dominican is set to compete in The Ohio State University Open on Friday, February 17 and will travel to Mount Union for the Mount Union Invite on Saturday, February 18.
