ALLIANCE, Ohio — Ohio Dominican senior Shakita Kabicek (Brook Park, Ohio) set the women's indoor school record in the 1000 meter run with a fifth place finish of 3:09.62 out of 32 runners, and overall five ODU track and field athletes earned top three finishes in events at the Jim Wuske Invitational at the University of Mount Union on Saturday.
Sophomore Wes Pipher (Attica, Ohio) took first place honors out of 27 competitors in the men's 3000 meter run, using a personal best time of 8:58.82 to win the event.
ODU saw three runners finish in the top five in the men's 60 meter dash. Finishing first was freshman Anthony Woods (Macedonia, Ohio), who ran a 6.95 in the men's 60 meter finals to win the event. Senior Taylor Williams (Houston, Texas) took second place in the event, finishing in 7.06, and junior Avery Sumpter (Lima, Ohio) took fifth with a time of 7.15. Woods also finished third in the 200 meter dash out of 56 runners, finishing in a personal best time of 22.94.
Junior Justin Carroll (Berea, Ohio) took second out of 50 runners in the men's 800, finishing in 1:57.94. Carroll holds the indoor school record in the 800 at 1:55.32. Sophomore Bobby Bogantz (Sunbury, Ohio) took fourth in the event with a time of 2:00.26, and junior Chad Ellis (Brook Park, Ohio) finished in a personal best time of 2:00.74 to finish sixth out of 50 runners.
Freshman Alec Mueller (Minerva, Ohio) established a new personal best in the men's 500, finishing in 1:09.52 to take fourth out of 18 competitors.
Also finishing strong in the men's 3000 was senior Andrew Beier (Bellevue, Ohio), who finished in fifth place with a time of 9:18.58.
Sophomore Clayton Seymour (Ashville, Ohio) recorded a personal best distance in the weight throw, recording a throw of 13.63 meters to take 10th in the event out of 40 competitors.
Freshman Tre Smith (Cleveland, Ohio) qualified for the men's 60 meter hurdle finals with a preliminary time of 8.89 and finished eighth in the 60 meter finals, finishing in 9.13.
Taking 12th in the women's 800 was freshman Hannah Peltier (Marion, Ohio), who used a time of 2:30.49 to finish 12th out of 51 runners.
In the women's 200, freshman Imani Stepney (Columbus, Ohio) used a finish of 27.05 to take sixth place out of 50 competitors. Freshman Bryanna Barber (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) also finished strong in the 200, taking 14th in 27.79.
In women's field events, freshman Emma Barth (Dayton, Ohio) took 13th out of 43 in the women's weight throw to lead the Panthers, throwing for a distance of 12.37 meters.
Freshman Shaunqueza Stevens (Dublin, Ohio) led the women's squad in the 60 meter dash, using a preliminary time of 8.24 to have the 14th best prelim time out of 51 competitors.
Ohio Dominican track and field will compete next at the Tiffin Dragon Open
