COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's track and field team will compete in its third indoor meet of the 2016-17 season when it travels to Youngstown to compete in the YSU College Invitational this Friday, January 20.
The meet will mark the first time the Panthers have competed at Youngstown State, and will mark the first track and field event for the squad in 2017. Running events are set to begin at 1 p.m., with field events starting at 2:30 p.m.
ODU is coming off strong performances in its last meet, the Kent State Golden Flashes Gala on December 9 & 10. Overall, ten men's and women's runners recorded top 10 finishes at the event. In the Panthers' first meet of the year, the Tiffin Alumni Open on Saturday, December 3, 32 student-athletes competed and eight earned top-five placings in their respective events.
At the Kent State Golden Flashes Gala, freshman Hannah Peltier (Marion, Ohio) led the women's squad with a second place finish in the women's 1,000 meter run, finishing with a time of 3:20.26, which ranks as the second-fastest time in ODU women's indoor track and field history in the 1,000.
Junior Justin Carroll (Berea, Ohio) has started the 2016-17 indoor season strong for the men's squad, posting top times for the men in four events thus far. Carroll set the ODU men's indoor record in the 300m at the Tiffin Alumni Open, finishing in a school record time of 37.47. Carroll holds ODU men's indoor records in the 300m, 500m, 600m, 800m, 1,000m and mile.
Sophomore Wes Pipher (Attica, Ohio) recorded a strong finish in the men's 3,000, finishing in 9:01.58 and establishing a personal best time in the event, coming in with the best finish in the 3,000 by an ODU men's indoor runner since Mike Barber set the school record for the event in 2015 with a time of 8:57.89.
Freshman Emma Barth (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) has led the women's field competitors thus far. Barth has recorded top throws for the Panthers in the shot put and weight throw this season, recording a distance of 9.72 meters in the shot put at the Tiffin Alumni Open and a throw of 12.73 meters in the weight throw at Tiffin.
The men's field competitors have been led by sophomores Clayton Seymour (Ashville, Ohio) and Connor Cooley (London, Ohio) thus far. Seymour recorded a personal best throw of 14.23 meters in the shot put at the Tiffin Alumni Open to lead ODU in the event this season, and Cooley leads the team in the weight throw, recording a distance of 11.33 meters at Tiffin.
After traveling to Youngstown for the YSU College Invitational on Friday, Ohio Dominican will compete in the Findlay Classic on January 27 & 28 to close out the month of January.
