TIFFIN, Ohio — Ohio Dominican junior Jalyn Devereaux (Carroll, Ohio) took first place in the women's 1,000 meter run to lead the ODU track and field team at the Tiffin Alumni Open on Saturday.
Devereaux finished in 3:15.74 to take first place in an indoor event for the fourth time in her career.
ODU saw three runners place in the top four in the women's 1,000, with sophomore Kristen Noecker (Circleville, Ohio) finishing third with a time of 3:24.15, and junior Trinity Gephart (Oak Harbor) taking fourth in 3:24.80. Gephart also took fourth place in the women's 3,000 meter run with a time of 12:13.89.
The meet marked the first indoor track and field event of the 2016-17 season for Ohio Dominican, which is coming off two second place team finishes during the 2016 indoor season, with 10 Ohio Dominican indoor track and field records set last year.
Freshman Hannah Peltier (Marion, Ohio) finished the women's 800 in 2:32.06, good enough to finish fourth out of 14 competitors.
Senior Shakita Kabicek (Brook Park, Ohio) took fourth place in the women's 500 meter run with a time of 1:28.74.
Freshman Emma Barth (Dayton, Ohio) turned in strong performances in field events in her first indoor event as a Panther, finishing 13th in the women's weight throw out of 29 competitors with a distance of 12.73 meters and also threw for 9.72 meters in the women's shot put.
For the men's squad, junior Chad Ellis (Brook Park, Ohio) took third place in the men's 1,000 meter run with a 2:41.55, setting a personal best in the event. Sophomore Wes Pipher (Attica, Ohio) also turned in a strong performance in the men's 3,000, finishing in 9:27.60 to take fourth place out of 15.
Also finishing strong was senior Taylor Williams (Houston, Texas), who placed third in the men's 60 meter run with a time of 6.99. Junior Avery Sumpter (Lima, Ohio) finished sixth in the 60 meter with a 7.09.
Junior Justin Carroll (Berea, Ohio) finished fourth in the men's 300 meter run, finishing in 37.47 to lead the Panthers.
Sophomore Bobby Bogantz (Sunbury, Ohio) took home a top five finish in the men's 5000 meters, using a time of 1:12.35 to take fifth out of 24 runners.
In the men's field events, ODU was led by sophomore Clayton Seymour (Ashville, Ohio), who threw for a distance of 14.23 meters in the shot put to take ninth place.
The ODU track and field team will compete in its next indoor event on Saturday, January 14 in Westerville at the Otterbein Invitational.
