COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's softball coach Marcella Vanlandingham earned her 700th career win in a 7-0 win over Lake Erie in game two of the sweep of the Storm on Friends of Jaclyn Day Sunday afternoon at Panther Field.
Coach Vanlandingham sports a .547 winning percentage in her 24 years as the Panther softball coach and has led the Panthers to the conference tournament each of the last three seasons.
Along with the sweep today, the Panthers clinched the G-MAC Regular Season Championship and will be the number one seed heading to Akron next week.
The Panther pitching staff of Sydney Long (Ashland, Ohio) and Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio) each earned shutout wins on the day as Long struck out three batters while allowing just two hits and Barber struck out 10 batters while giving up seven hits.
In the 7-0 game two win for win 700, the Panthers were able to get on the board with a run in the second on a sacrifice fly from Brooklyn Rayburn (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and a Landry Slider (Stow, Ohio) single in the third.
ODU would bust open the game in the sixth as Taylor Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) blasted her 10th home run of the year over the left center field fence that brought in Kelly Mix (Baltimore, Ohio) to make the score 4-0. Later in the inning, Keirah Smetzer (Ashland, Ohio) hit a sacrifice fly that brought in Barber before Hacker doubled in the left center gap to bring Rayburn around.
Game one saw the Panthers defeat the Storm 8-0 in five innings.
Slider got the scoring started with a double in the first that brought home Aubrey Rolon (Hilliard, Ohio). The Panthers would strike for a pair in the bottom half of the second as Rolon brought home Barber on a Lake Erie error and Slider drew a bases loaded walk to bring in Smezter making the score 3-0.
After scoring two more the bottom half of the fourth, ODU would finish the Storm with three in the fifth capped by a Hacked single that brought home Smetzer and Rayburn.
The Panthers (32-20, 21-5) head to the G-MAC Tournament next week in Akron where they will play Hillsdale at Firestone Stadium Thursday morning at 10 a.m.
