INDIANAPOLIS – The Ohio Dominican softball battery of freshman pitcher Sydney Long (Ashland, Ohio) and catcher Kelly Mix (Baltimore, Ohio) were named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference pitcher and player of the week as announced by the conference office Monday morning. (3/25)
Long finished the week with a 4-0 record and a 1.93 RTA where she also earned a save in 25.1 innings pitched. She allowed just 12 hits in her five appearances and seven earned runs with 20 strikeouts. Her opponents hit just .138 off her this week which was the tops in the conference.
Long's week was highlighted by a no-hitter in the 6-0 win against Cedarville in game one on Tuesday as she posted a pair of strikeouts in her win. She followed that up with another complete game in the 5-2 win over Findlay as she gave up two runs on just three hits with eight strikeouts.
Over the weekend, Long earned the win in the first game before picking up the save in game two in a pair of wins of Hillsdale. To cap the week on Sunday, the freshman from Ashland beat Tiffin 2-1 in game one as she gave up one run on just two hits.
At the plate, Mix led the conference with a .524 batting average over the week as she was 11-for-21 at the plate with three home runs, three doubles, 3 walks and 13 RBI's. Mix had at least one hit in six of the eight games this week including four games with at least two. The senior catcher also have multiple RBI's in five of the eight games this week and reach based four times in a game twice.
Long, Mix and the rest of the Panther softball team are riding a nine game win streak and are winners of 11 of their last 12 games as they are 17-13 overall, 8-0 in the conference and head to Davis & Elkins on Saturday, March 30.
