LEBANON, Illinois – Ohio Dominican's softball team swept McKendree by final scores of 3-1 and 9-2 Monday afternoon at Bearcat Field
In her second consecutive complete game win in game one, freshman Sydney Long (Ashland, Ohio) gave up just the one run on five hits with six strikeouts and one walk. Junior Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio) also had her second consecutive complete game as she finished game two giving up two earned runs while scattering nine hits with eight strikeouts and no walks.
Junior Landry Slider (Stow, Ohio) led the offense on the afternoon with four hits including two doubles in game one along with an RBI. Sophomore Kristen Bales (Pickerington, Ohio) maintained her hot bat with three hits on the day. In game two, Barber posted three hits with three RBI's and three runs scored while senior Kelly Mix (Baltimore, Ohio) also had three hits with two RBI's and two runs scored.
After two scoreless innings the Panthers scored once in the third and twice in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead.
In that third inning, Carson Hackerd (Frankfort, Indiana) led off the inning with a single and came around on a double from Slider.
The Panthers tacked on a pair in the fourth inning as Mix singled to lead off the inning and Brooklyn Rayburn (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) followed that with a single of her own. They both came around on a Bales double to deep center field.
The Bearcats would come back with a run in the sixth and after a hit with one out in the seventh, Long got the final two outs to secure the win.
Game two saw the Panthers jump on McKendree for five runs in the first as ODU took advantage of two Bearcat errors. Hackerd reached on an error and came around to score on a Slider single to right field. Later in the inning Mix singled to center to score Bales and Barber followed that up with a double to left field which scored Mix and Allison Fathbruckner (Delaware, Ohio) to make the score 4-0. To bring the fifth run in, sophomore Emma Bergman (Oak Harbor, Ohio) singled to the left side which score Barber from second.
The Bearcats would score twice in the bottom half of the fourth which was again answered by the Panthers with two of their own in the top of the fifth making the score 8-2. ODU would then tack on another run in the seventh as Barber continued to help her cause with a home run in the seventh.
The Panthers head back to Bearcat Field tomorrow as they play McKendree in another doubleheader with games at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. CT.
