INDIANAPOLIS — Ohio Dominican's softball team is currently the hottest team in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference and one of the hottest squads in NCAA Division II, and sophomore Taylor Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) was rewarded with G-MAC player of the week honors after her stellar play in the midst of the Panthers' 16-game win streak.
Farmer went .480 this past week in eight wins for ODU, which is now 14-0 in the month of April and has swept its last eight opponents in doubleheaders by a combined margin of 119-21. Last week alone, Farmer hit three home runs, tallied 12 hits, six RBIs, one triple, one double and boasted a slugging percentage of .960.
With a three-run home run in the Panthers' 5-4 win over Trevecca on Saturday, Farmer played a major role in extending the streak to 16 games for the Panthers. With inclement weather on the door step of Panther Field and ODU trailing Trevecca 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth of game two, Farmer delivered a three-run shot to center field that cleared the fence and gave ODU a 5-4 lead. It proved to be the game-winning play, extending the program-record win streak to 16 games for Ohio Dominican.
In three of her last five outings, Farmer has logged multi-hit games and is currently third in the G-MAC in RBIs with 33 on the season. She also ranks in a tie for first in the conference in home runs with seven on the year.
Ohio Dominican will be back in action on Thursday at Ohio Valley, with first pitch of the doubleheader set for 3 p.m.
