First Great Midwest Games For Softball Set For Friday At Cedarville

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The first Great Midwest Athletic Conferences games for Ohio Dominican's softball team will come this Friday at Cedarville beginning at 3 p.m.

The Panthers (10-13, 0-0 G-MAC) were originally scheduled to play at Malone Friday and Cedarville on Saturday, but a snowstorm that impacted several parts of Ohio on Wednesday forced schedule changes that included the ODU/Malone doubleheader being moved to March 29 and the contests between the Panthers and Yellow Jackets switching to Friday.

ODU is looking to get back on track after falling to Saginaw Valley and Ashland in non-conference tilts on Sunday and Monday, but the Panthers have already experienced several strong non-conference wins to begin the season. In its last victory, Ohio Dominican notched a 3-1 road win over Bellarmine and also defeated No. 9 Southern Indiana on February 26 by a final mark of 5-1. It marked the first victory for the Panthers over a top 10 team since 2014.

The Panthers currently rank second in the G-MAC in hits (175), third in RBIs (94) and fifth in slugging percentage (.383) heading into conference play. Leading the squad in batting average is senior Liz Sutter (Mansfield, Ohio), who boasts a .377 average while also notching 10 RBIs thus far. Sutter is second on the team in stolen bases with five, while senior Taylor Kline (Bellville, Ohio) has swiped 14 bases thus far to rank first in the G-MAC. Sophomore Taylor Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) ranks in a tie for fourth in the conference and leads the team in RBIs with 19 on the season.

Getting it done both in the circle and at the plate is sophomore Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio), who holds a batting average of .370 and a slugging percentage of .630, which ranks ninth in the Great Midwest. In the second game against Ashland on Monday, Barber went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs while pitching all seven innings in the circle and allowing just one earned run. She holds a 3.27 ERA with 30 strikeouts thus far. Junior pitcher Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio) leads the team in ERA at 2.46 with a team-best 36 strikeouts.

Next week, Ohio Dominican will make the trip to the Greater Canton area to take on Malone Thursday and Walsh Saturday.
