Softball Returns To Grand Park For Key Non-Conference Contests

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's softball team will travel to Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana for the second weekend in a row, with six non-conference games scheduled from Saturday, February 24 through Monday, February 26.

The Panthers (3-3) were originally scheduled to play in the Midwest Region Crossover at the University of Southern Indiana from Friday through Sunday, but impending inclement weather in the area forced the cancellation of the event and teams to adjust their schedules for the second-straight week of sloppy weather to begin the season. Several teams that were originally scheduled to play at the Crossover will take to the turf at Grand Park for games this weekend.

ODU will face six Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) opponents, beginning with No. 9 Southern Indiana on Saturday, February 24 at 1 p.m. before taking on Bellarmine at 3 p.m. On Sunday, Ohio Dominican and Quincy will play a doubleheader, with game times set for 2:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. The Panthers will face Southern Indiana again on Monday at 1 p.m. before playing against RV Indianapolis at 3 p.m.

This past Sunday, Ohio Dominican topped Rockhurst by a final mark of 3-2 and Indianapolis 6-5 (9 inn.) at Grand Park to move to 3-3 overall.

Sophomore Taylor Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) earned Great Midwest Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors after going four scoreless innings in the win over Indianapolis. Farmer struck out four and walked just one batter while surrendering just four hits and zero runs to help ODU earn a dramatic comeback victory over the Greyhounds. Farmer boasts a 1.31 ERA in 10.2 innings pitched thus far, also hitting .350 with seven RBIs through six games. Two weeks ago, senior Taylor Kline (Bellville, Ohio) earned Great Midwest Player of the Week, and currently boasts seven hits and four stolen bases in the early going. Senior Liz Sutter (Mansfield, Ohio) leads the Panthers in batting average at .455, notching 10 hits, seven RBIs and two stolen bases thus far.

Following play this weekend, Ohio Dominican will host its first games of the season at Panther Field on Wednesday, February 28, with a doubleheader against Tiffin beginning at 2 p.m.
