WESTFIELD, Ind. — Ohio Dominican's softball team notched two regional wins on Sunday at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana, topping Great Lakes Valley Conference opponents Rockhurst and Indianapolis by final marks of 3-2 and 6-5.
ODU was originally scheduled to play in the Music City Invitational in Hendersonville, Tennessee this weekend, but inclement weather in the area forced the cancelation of the event and several programs to alter their schedules.
The Panthers (3-3, 0-0 G-MAC) earned a 3-2 win over Rockhurst in game one of the day, as senior Liz Sutter (Mansfield, Ohio) delivered a walk-off single to push ODU to victory. With the game tied at 2-2 in the top of the seventh, Sutter delivered a single on the 2-1 pitch to score freshman Aubrey Rolon (Hilliard, Ohio) and earn a 3-2 victory for ODU. Sutter and freshman Kristen Bales (Pickerington, Ohio) each notched two hits apiece, while sophomore pitcher Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio) recorded a complete game, allowing just two runs on six hits.
The Panthers topped Indianapolis by a final mark of 6-5 in game two of the day. The win marks the first victory for Ohio Dominican over UIndy in the Panthers' NCAA Division II era.
ODU will look forward to competition in the Midwest Region Crossover next weekend in Evansville, Indiana.
