HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Ohio Dominican's softball team dropped non-conference contests to Alabama-Huntsville and Shorter on the second and final day of competition at the Charger Chillout 2.0 on Friday.
Alabama-Huntsville moved to 7-2 overall with a 15-2 victory over Ohio Dominican in six innings. ODU trailed 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning when a double to left field by freshman Carson Hackerd (Frankfort, Ind.) scored freshman Kristen Bales (Pickerington, Ohio) and sophomore Taylor Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) to cut the Panther deficit to just 6-2. But Alabama-Huntsville scored nine runs over the next two innings to earn its seventh win of the year.
ODU fell 7-4 to Shorter in the second game of the day. Seniors Taylor Kline (Bellville, Ohio) and Liz Sutter (Mansfield, Ohio) each went 2-for-4 and combined for three RBIs. Farmer notched her fifth RBI in four games, while juniors Maria Simmonds (Columbus, Ohio) and Kelly Mix (Baltimore, Ohio) each recorded a hit.
The Panthers trailed 7-2 in the top of the seventh, but a two-RBI triple by Kline with two outs scored sophomore Brooklyn Rayburn (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and freshman Aubrey Rolon (Hilliard, Ohio) to cut the deficit to just 7-4. But Shorter was able to get the out it needed in the next at bat en route to victory.
Ohio Dominican (1-3) will look forward to six games next weekend at the Music City Invitational in Hendersonville, Tennessee.
