Softball Sweeps Findlay To Win Sixth-Straight

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's softball team continued its winning ways with victories over Findlay by final scores of 8-3 and 10-0 (5 innings) on Saturday afternoon at Panther Field.

ODU (23-18, 10-5 GLIAC) has won its last six contests and has earned victories in seven of its last eight GLIAC games. Following game two, seniors Casey Murdoch (Morrow, Ohio) and Kelly Wallace (Oshkosh, Wisconsin) were honored as part of senior day at Panther Field.

In game one, the Panthers used 10 hits to score eight runs. Sophomore pitcher Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio) went the distance to earn her 10th win and 15th complete game of the season, allowing just one earned run.

Murdoch went 3-for-3 with a two-run home run, her third long ball of the season. Sophomore Kelly Mix (Baltimore, Ohio) went 2-for-4, while sophomore Maria Simmonds (Columbus, Ohio) also finished with an RBI for Ohio Dominican.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Lamping singled through the right side to score Wallace and tie the game at 1-1. Then in the next at bat, Simmonds doubled down the left field line to score Mix and give the Panthers a 2-1 lead. Lamping would score on a fielding error by the catcher two batters later to give ODU a 3-1 lead through four.

In the bottom of the sixth with the game tied at 3-3, freshman Taylor Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) doubled to left field to score Simmonds and help the Panthers re-take the lead, 4-3. After a single by Kline, junior Liz Sutter (Mansfield, Ohio) reached on a fielder's choice to score Kline and Farmer and increase the Ohio Dominican advantage to 6-3. But ODU wasn't finished, as Murdoch homered to left field, scoring Sutter and giving the Panthers an 8-3 lead, which it maintained en route to victory.

In game two, ODU rolled to a 10-0 (5 inn.) win over the Oilers. Kline tied a career-high with four stolen bases in the contest, also going 2-for-3 at the plate. Sutter went 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Murdoch went 2-for-3, while Farmer recorded a two RBI double for Ohio Dominican.

Leading 5-0 in the top of the fifth, Farmer doubled to left center field to score freshmen Landry Slider (Stow, Ohio) and Brooklyn Rayburn (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) to increase ODU's lead to 7-0. Later in the inning, Sutter singled to right field to score Kline and Farmer for a 9-0 lead. Freshman Nikki Ennis (Bloomington, Indiana) drew a walk with the bases loaded later in the inning to score Sutter, giving the Panthers a 10-0 lead heading to the bottom of the fifth.

Freshman Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio) did not allow a run in the bottom of the fifth to close the door on the Oilers and earn the win, 10-0. Barber allowed just two hits in five innings of work while recording her third win.

ODU currently sits in fourth place in the GLIAC and will travel to Wayne State on Saturday, April 22 for conference clashes with the Warriors.
