Softball Defeats Edinboro, Concordia-St. Paul On Final Day Of NTC Spring Games

CLERMONT, Florida — Ohio Dominican's softball team scored an 8-1 win over Edinboro and defeated Concordia-St. Paul by a final score of 3-1 on final day competition at the NTC Spring Games on Friday.

ODU (13-11, 0-0 GLIAC) finished 7-3 on its spring break trip to Florida, winning five of its last seven games.

Against Edinboro, Ohio Dominican scored eight runs on six hits en route to an 8-1 victory over the Fighting Scots. The Panther defense held Edinboro to just one run on six hits.

Junior Taylor Kline (Bellville, Ohio) went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Panthers' offensive attack. Freshman Nikki Ennis (Bloomington, Indiana) recorded a two RBI triple. Senior Kelly Wallace (Oshkosh, Wisconsin) went 1-for-3, while junior Jordan Nichols (Peotone, Illinois) and senior Casey Murdoch (Morrow, Ohio) each finished with one hit for Ohio Dominican.

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the second with one out and runners on second and third, Ennis tripled down the left field line, scoring Murdoch and Nichols to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead through two.

In the top of the fifth leading 2-1, Kline singled through the left side and advanced to second on the throw to score junior Liz Sutter (Mansfield, Ohio) and sophomore Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio), increasing ODU's advantage to 4-1. The Panthers would score two more runs in the fifth on errors to increase their lead to 6-1 and added two runs in the top of the seventh to earn the victory, 8-1.

Lamping picked up her sixth win of the year in the circle, striking out six batters to tie a season-high in strikeouts.

The Panthers wrapped up competition in the NTC Spring Games with a 3-1 win over Concordia-St. Paul in the second game of the day for ODU. The Panthers recorded seven hits while holding the Golden Bears to just one run on eight hits.

Kline finished 2-for-4, marking her fifth-straight, multi-hit game. Over the past five games, Kline is 12-for-17 with one triple and six stolen bases. Kline stole three bases in the win over Concordia-St. Paul, tying a career-high for stolen bases in a game.

Wallace went 2-for-3. Murdoch went 2-for-2 while also pitching 6.1 innings and allowing just one earned run with five strikeouts. Freshman Landry Slider (Stow, Ohio) recorded an RBI single and freshman Brooklyn Rayburn (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) recorded one hit for ODU.

With the game tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the third with two outs and the bases loaded, Slider singled to score Wallace and give ODU a 2-1 lead. Then in the next at bat, Ennis earned a walk to score Rayburn to increase Ohio Dominican's advantage to 3-1.

Murdoch and Lamping held the Golden Bears scoreless for the remainder of the contest, earning the victory, 3-1.

Ohio Dominican will travel to Indianapolis on Wednesday for a doubleheader with the Greyhounds beginning at 2 p.m.
