COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Dominican fell 2-1 against Tiffin in game one of the day but came away victorious 4-1 in game two in doubleheader action Saturday at Panther Field.
The Panthers (14-14, 1-1 GLIAC) were playing in their first GLIAC contests of the season and were playing at home for just the sixth game of the year.
In game one of the day, Tiffin scored one run in each of the first two innings to secure a 2-1 victory. Freshman pitcher Abby Lamping (Cleves, OH) went all seven innings in the circle for ODU, surrendering seven hits and two runs in defeat.
Tiffin struck first, scoring on a double to center field to take a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the first inning.
Tiffin scored in the top of the second on a double to left center field to take a 2-1 lead, which would be enough to secure the victory.
In game two, Ohio Dominican used two early runs to set the tone in a 4-1 victory. Sophomore Bailey Miller (Cincinnati, OH) recorded her third win of the year, going seven innings and allowing just four hits and one earned run.
Kline started things for the Panthers, leading off with a double down the left field line. A sacrifice bunt by sophomore Liz Sutter (Mansfield, OH) scored Kline and Sutter reached third base after a throwing error. An RBI bunt for a single by junior Casey Murdoch (Morrow, OH) scored Sutter, and the Panthers held a 2-0 advantage through the first inning.
After a run by Tiffin in the third inning narrowed the deficit to 2-1, the Panthers extended their lead in the top of the fourth by way of an RBI single down the left field line by freshman Kylie Dempsey (Liberty Township, OH) to score Miller, giving ODU a 3-1 lead.
A run in the top of the seventh gave the Panthers a 4-1 lead, as a double by Sutter scored senior Montana Fishel (Gahanna, OH).
Miller closed out the bottom of the inning by retiring all three batters in order, earning the 4-1 victory for Ohio Dominican. The Panthers outhit Tiffin 9-4 in the game.
Kline went three-for-three in game one and three-for-four in game two, earning her fifth three-hit game of the season. She is batting .473 this year with a .527 slugging percentage, a .515 on base percentage and has recorded multiple hits in 14 games this year. Kline also recorded three stolen bases in the first game of the day, bringing her GLIAC-leading season total to 21.
Sutter, Murdoch and Dempsey each recorded RBIs in game two and Suyak picked up an RBI in game one of the day.
The Panthers will host Findlay (18-8, 4-0 GLIAC) in doubleheader action at Panther Field on Tuesday, with the first game slated to start at 3 p.m.
