Fifer Wins Triple Jump as Panthers Prep for GLIAC Championships

ASHLAND, Ohio – Freshman Tyler Fifer (Westerville, Ohio) came up just short of an NCAA Provisional mark in the triple jump to lead Ohio Dominican's track and field teams at Saturday's Ashland Alumni Open.

Fifer won the triple jump with his season-best leap of 47-05.75, which is just one inch shy of the provisional standard and tied for the fifth-best mark in the conference this spring. He also took fifth in the high jump (6-07.00) and ninth in the long jump (20-07.00).

Classmate Aaron Johnson (Troy, Ohio) had ODU's next top finish as he took third in the 110 hurdles in 15.18, just .01 behind his season-best tally. Freshman Malik Tuck (Medina, Ohio) and sophomore Darrell Harley (Columbus, Ohio) went five-six in the 100 meter dash in 11.55 and 11.60, respectively, while freshman Michael Barber (New Franklin, Ohio) rounded out the men's top finishers with his time of 16:06.28 in the 5000 meters to place 10th.

The women had a strong showing in the 5000 meter run as well, as senior Meghan Willeke (Lexington, Ohio) took sixth in 18:49.14, and freshman Tara Walker (Lewis Center, Ohio) placed eighth in 18:54.10.

The Panthers next head to the GLIAC Championships, hosted by Grand Valley State. The three-day meet starts Wednesday, May 2.
