NEW ALBANY, Ohio -- The Ohio Dominican men's tennis team held on after strong doubles play, defeating Ferris State University 5-4 in GLIAC play.
ODU took 3-of-3 doubles points thanks to strong efforts from all three courts. Ritchie Kruunenberg (Fr./Nieuw-Vennep, Holland) and Justin Tjon (So./Willemstad, Curacao) took control of the match mid-way through the pro-set, winning 8-4 on court one. Patrick Ohanian (Jr./Hudson, OH) and Jeremy Mokry (Sr./Hilliard, OH) exhanged early breaks but took advantage late, winning 8-6 on court two. Finally, Tyler Johnston (Sr./Wilmington, OH) and Gerardo Perez (Jr./Mexico City, Mexico) continued their inspired play, winning a close match 8-5 at #3 doubles.
In singles play, Ferris State mounted a comback, winning 4-of-6 courts but with the match knotted at four junior Gerardo Perez clinched the fifth point with a 6-0, 6-4 at #6 singles. Earning the second singles point for the Panthers was Tjon on court two, 6-1, 6-3.
The Panthers return to action Saturday, March 1st as they welcome Northwood University to Columbus for another GLIAC match. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m.
