The Ohio Dominican men's tennis team closed out their regular season schedule on Sunday morning, defeating Lake Superior State University 9-0 on Panther Courts.
Strong doubles play gave ODU early control as they gain early leads on courts two and three. Tito Bonadonna (Sr./Caracas, Venezuela) and Jeremy Mokry (Jr./Hilliard, OH) cruised to an 8-1 win on court three to give the Panthers the 1-0 match lead. On court two, Tyler Johnston (Jr./Willmington, OH) and Partrick Ohanian (So./Hudson, OH) used an early break of serve and held to win 8-3. Justin Tjon (Fr./Willemstad, Curacao) and Walid Gtari (Fr./Tunis, Tunisia) overcame an early break to win 8-5 at #1 doubles.
Leading 3-0, ODU gained control on court five as Tjon used a dominate performance to win 6-0, 6-0. Mokry earned the deciding point for the Panthers, winning 6-2, 6-0 on court four; while Bonadonna finished off his match on court two, 6-0, 6-0. Johnston and Gerardo Perez (So./Mexico City, Mexico) also earned wins on courts three and six, winning 6-2, 6-0 and 7-5, 6-0, respectively. Gtari finsihed off the clean sweep for ODU, winning 6-4, 6-3 on court one.
"The guys have been playing at a high level and were looking for that to continue next weekend," said head coach Ryan Beigle. "I was happy to see the guys send Tito off with a final home win."
The Panthers will now move on to the GLIAC Tournament on Friday, April 19th when they will play Grand Valley State University. The match will be held at the Midland Community Tennis Center in Midland, Michigan.
