The Ohio Dominican men's tennis team earned a hard fought 8-1 win over visiting Tiffin University on Wednesday afternoon at Panther Courts. With the win, the Panthers move to 9-8 overall and 5-4 in GLIAC play.
Doubles proved to be a momentum boost for the Panthers as they were able to take 3-of-3 courts. Court one was decided by an unfortunate injury as ODU was up 5-2 before the match was called. On court three, Tito Bonadonna (Sr./Caracas, Venezuela) and Jeremy Mokry (Jr./Hilliard, OH) took control late, winning 8-5. At #2 doubles, Tyler Johnston (Jr./Willmington, OH) and Patrick Ohanian (So./Hudson, OH) used a late break to win their match, 8-6.
With the momentum on their side, ODU seized control on courts three and six and earned the fourth and fifth points. Gerardo Perez (So./Mexico City, Mexico) won his match on court six, 6-0, 6-0 and Bonadonna followed close behind, winning on court three, 6-3, 6-0. Justin Tjon (Fr./Willemstad, Curacao) responded after dropping the first set, winning on court five, 2-6, 6-1, 10-3, while Walid Gtari (Fr./Tunis, Tunisia) and Mokry earned wins on courts one and four, 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 and 6-4, 6-3, respectively.
The Panthers return to action on Friday as they play host to Michigan Tech in another cruicial GLIAC match. The first serve is set to be hit at 3 p.m. on Panther Courts.
