The Ohio Dominican men's tennis team hosted Walsh University on Thursday afternoon in a GLIAC match-up between former NAIA conference foes. The Panthers emerged victorious, earning a solid 8-1 win.
Doubles play saw the Panthers win 2-of-3 courts to take the early advantage. Walid Gtari (Fr./Tunis, Tunisia) and Justin Tjon (Fr./Willemstad, Curacao) earned an 8-0 win on court one, while Jeremy Mokry (Jr./Hilliard, OH) and Tito Bonadonna (Sr./Caracas, Venezuela) won on court three, 8-1.
In singles play, ODU won all six courts to earn their second GLIAC win of the season. Gerardo Perez (So./Mexico City, Mexico) was the first off the court, winning on court six, 6-0, 6-1. Tjon followed on court five, winning 6-1, 6-4, while Mokry won in straight sets on court four, 6-3, 6-2. Tyler Johnston (Jr./Willmington, OH) came back from 5-1 down in the opening set to win 7-5, 6-3 on court three and Bonadonna battled on court two, winning 6-4, 6-3. In the final match, Gtari held on to win 6-3, 4-6, 12-10 at #1 singles.
The Panthers return to action tomorrow as they host Malone University on Panther Courts. The GLIAC match is set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
