Men Take Down Trojans in Home Opener
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican men's tennis team opened the fall portion of their 2010-11 season with a tough 6-3 win over visiting Taylor University on Saturday morning. The Panthers gutted their way through the tough Trojan team to earn the first win in school history against Taylor.
In singles action, ODU won two 3-set matches, earning 4-of-6 singles courts. Earning singles points for the Panthers was Claude Badowski (Jr./Oundle, England) on court two, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, Greg Dillon (Sr./Fort Wayne, IN) on court three, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 and Igor Carvalho (Fr./Belem, Brazil), who earned his first collegiate win, on court four, 6-4, 6-4. Bobby McMahan (Sr./Dunwoody, GA) closed out the singles coring for ODU with a win at #6 singles, 6-2, 6-4.
In doubles play, the Panthers set the tone early, taking 2-of-3 doubles courts to secure the team win. Bernardo Feitosa (Jr./Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Carvalho took court two with a well fought 8-5 win. On court three, Dillon and McMahan earned an 8-5 decision; while Conrad Klank (Sr./Dayton, OH) and Badowski dropped a very tight 8-4 match on court one.
ODU will return to action on Friday, September 10th as they travel to Springfield, Ohio to participate in the Wittenberg Individual Flighted Tournament. Play is set to begin at 9 a.m. and will continue with the finals being played on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Wittenberg University.
