COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Sophomore River Allbaugh's (Pickerington, Ohio) pair of goals deemed too much for the Pioneers as Ohio Dominican's men's soccer team clinched their second consecutive shutout with a 2-0 win over Malone in their Great Midwest Athletic Conference opener Thursday evening at Panther Stadium.
The Panther offense came out firing as they posted 15 shots in the first half to Malone's three. Albaugh found the back of the net in the 25 minute off a pass from senior Ryan Kasprzak (Hilliard, Ohio). The 32-yard shot from Albaugh found the upper left hand corner of the goal behind the Pioneer goalkeeper. ODU also had five corner kicks to zero from Malone in the opening 45 minutes.
Ohio Dominican added 10 more shots in the second half to Malone's three. Albaugh found the back of the net in the second 45 minutes off a pass from fellow sophomore, Ross Baumer (Hilliard, Ohio) in the 67 minute.
The physical contest saw 37 total fouls with 19 coming from ODU and 18 from Malone along with two yellow cards for each team.
Senior goalkeeper Alec Mathew (Pataskala, Ohio) earned his first career shutout between the posts as he played all 90 minutes with two saves.
With the win, Ohio Dominican evens their overall record at 2-2 while being 1-0 in the G-MAc while Malone drops to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the G-MAC.
