ASHLAND, Ohio -- Ohio Dominican's men's soccer team clinched their first win of the year as the Panthers (1-2) shutout Ashland (0-2) 1-0 on the road, in a nonconference matchup Tuesday night at Ashland.
Senior Jonathan Barnes (Winter Haven, Fla.) notched the only goal of the game as his shot from the right side of the box beat the Eagle goalkeeper in the 75 minute which proved to be the game-winner for the Panthers.
Barnes led the Panther offensive attack with four shots, all on goal while freshman Tyler Arnold (Westerville, Ohio) posted six shots with two on goal. Mario Alvarez (Mount Vernon, Ohio) and Ryan Kasprzak (Hilliard, Ohio) also each posted a shot on goal for the Panthers.
Senior goalkeeper, Robby Frye (Cincinnati, Ohio) played all 90 minutes for the Panthers facing three shots without letting one by him.
The Panthers outshot Ashland 6-2 in the opening 45 minutes with two ODU shots coming on goal. Each team also had two corner kicks each with neither team finding the back of the net.
Ohio Dominican then outshot the Eagles 11-2 in the second half with seven more shots on goal. The Panthers added nine corner kicks in the second half.
The Panthers have a quick turnaround as they open Great Midwest Athletic Conference play on Thursday, September 6 with a home matchup against Malone at 5 p.m.
