COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's men's soccer team matched a season-high in goals and also recorded its first shutout of the year as the Panthers defeated visiting Malone 3-0 in G-MAC play Thursday night from Panther Stadium.
ODU (3-8, 2-7 G-MAC) had a decisive 24-6 edge in shots and earned six corner kicks to just one for the Pioneers, who managed just one shot in the final 22:10 of the match.
With less than two minutes left in a scoreless first half, freshman Jaxson Szabo (Worthington, Ohio) headed in a ball off a corner from Noah Kiser (Mason, Ohio) to put the Panthers in front 1-0 at intermission.
The Panthers extended the lead to 2-0 on a blast from Kiser outside of the 18 that was partially deflected by a Malone defender and into the right side of the net.
ODU's final goal came with less than four minutes remaining in the match as junior Ryan Kasprzak (Hilliard, Ohio) took advantage of a Pioneer turnover in the defensive third and broke free from two defenders to find the back of the net.
Freshman Ian Crook (Cincinnati, Ohio) earned the clean sheet as he stopped all six shots that he faced, recording his first collegiate victory.
The 24 shots by ODU was a season-high.
Ohio Dominican remains at home at 7 p.m. Saturday as the Panthers play host to Walsh. The program will be raising funds in memory of Brock Taylor, who graduated in 2015 and passed away this summer. There will be a silent auction and 50-50 drawing, with proceeds going to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
