Davis & Elkins Slips Past Men’s Soccer, 1-0

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A goal in the 23rd minute by Davis & Elkins' Tim Staerz was enough for the Senators to earn a 1-0 win over Ohio Dominican's men's soccer team on Tuesday night at Panther Stadium in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference match.

The Panthers (2-4, 1-3 G-MAC) held a 7-6 edge in shots on goal over D&E.

Freshmen Alec Holden (Upper Arlington, Ohio) and Jonathan Barnes (Winter Haven, Florida) led Ohio Dominican in shots on goal with two apiece. Senior keeper Clayton Hildebrand (Findlay, Ohio) tied a season-high for saves with five stops on the night.

D&E took its 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute, but the Panthers pressed the Senators for the equalizer late in the match. A shot by junior Ryan Kasprzak (Hilliard, Ohio) in the 86th minute was saved by D&E keeper Hedi Mehnaoui, and a header attempt by freshman Jaxson Szabo (Worthington, Ohio) off a corner kick from junior Phillip Kelly (Canal Winchester, Ohio) in the 90th minute went wide.

ODU hits the road for matches at Cedarville on Thursday and Ohio Valley on Saturday.
