PAINESVILLE, Ohio — A goal in the 104th minute by Lake Erie's Stuart Campbell was enough for the Storm to defeat Ohio Dominican's men's soccer team 3-2 on Friday night in a match between the two GLIAC schools.
The loss puts the Panthers (6-10, 6-8 GLIAC) in sixth place in the conference heading into their final two matches of the season against Tiffin on Friday and Findlay on Sunday.
Lake Erie (8-6-3, 6-6-3 GLIAC) held a slim, 13-12 advantage in shots and an 8-6 edge in shots on goal. ODU finished with a 6-4 edge in corner kicks over the Storm.
Ohio Dominican sophomore Ryan Kasprzak (Hilliard, Ohio) scored his ninth goal of the year in the contest. Kasprzak currently ranks third in the GLIAC in goals scored, finishing the match with two shots on goal and three shots overall.
Freshman Cameron Christian (Pataskala, Ohio) notched his third goal of the season, recording two shots and one shot on goal, while senior Shane Facemyer (Sunbury, Ohio) finished with two assists, while also chipping in two shots on goal on three total shots.
ODU took the lead in the 11th minute on a goal from Christian after a collision in the box, giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Lake Erie countered with goals in the 36th and 42nd minutes, taking a 2-1 lead into halftime.
In the 67th minute, Kasrpzak evened the match with a shot from the 15-yard line on the left wing on an assist from Facemyer, tying the contest at 2-2.
But a Lake Erie goal in the 104th minute was enough for the Storm, as Campbell found the back of the net after a deflection from a save by junior Clayton Hildebrand (Findlay, Ohio), as the Storm earned the 3-2 (2OT) victory.
Ohio Dominican will look to get back in the win column against Tiffin on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Panther Stadium.
