COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Dominican men's soccer team jumped out to a 4-0 lead and scored a convincing 5-1 victory over visiting Ashland on Sunday afternoon in GLIAC play at Panther Stadium.
The relentless attack began early with sophomore Ryan Kasprzak (Hilliard, Ohio) netting a goal five minutes into the contest. The goal was Kasprzak's team-leading ninth goal of the season as hevolleyed in a cross from Andrew Schwall (Gahanna, Ohio) into the lower left corner of the goal. The assist was number three on the year for Schwall, tying him for the team lead in that category.
Senior midfielder Brent Wahle (Pataskala, Ohio) then added his second and third goals on the year, as the Panthers built a comfortable 3-0 lead going into the half. The goals came just 2:36 apart from each other, with the latter coming at the 34:05 mark of the half.
The Panthers extended their lead to 4-0 on a corner kick that was knocked into the net by an Ashland defender for an own goal less than 10 minutes into the second half.
After Ashland scored on a penalty kick, freshman Noah Kempton (Canal Winchester, Ohio) netted his first career goal to round out the scoring for the Panthers at the 87:41 mark. He took a feed from junior Austin Blair (Cincinnati, Ohio) around a charging keeper and getting it into the open net before the opposing defender could recover.
ODU set season highs for shots (28), shots on goal (13), and shot differential (18), keeping constant pressure on Ashland (4-10-1, 2-10-1 GLIAC) throughout the game.
The Panther victory moved them to 6-9 on the season (6-7 GLIAC), including a 5-2 record at home.
They will next travel to Lake Erie (7-5-3, 5-5-3 GLIAC) on Wednesday, Oct. 26, for their final road game of the regular season.
