MARQUETTE, Mich. — Goals in the 50th and 51st minutes by Ohio Dominican senior Tanner Ebright (Pickerington, Ohio) sophomore Ryan Kasprzak (Hilliard, Ohio) helped ODU surge ahead to a 3-1 win at Northern Michigan in a GLIAC match on Sunday afternoon.
The Panthers (4-7, 4-5 GLIAC) earned their second victory of the season against Northern Michigan (3-7-1, 3-6-1 GLIAC) on Sunday after defeating the Wildcats 1-0 on September 11, and move to just one game back of the .500 mark in GLIAC play with the victory.
The Panthers were able to score three goals on seven shots on goal and 17 shots overall. ODU also held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks over Northern Michigan.
Junior Clayton Hildebrand (Findlay, Ohio) recorded a career-high eight saves and limited NMU to just one goal on nine shots on goal and 19 total shots.
Kasprzak scored his seventh goal of the season on five shots, three shots on goal. Ebright recorded his second goal of the year and also picked up an assist, finishing with a career-high three points in the match. Senior Michael Fragoulis (Chios, Greece) connected on his second goal of the year, and senior Brent Wahle (Pataskala, Ohio) finished with one assist and two shots on goal on six total shots.
The Panthers struck first in the 27th minute on a goal by Fragoulis on a rebound off a penalty kick shot by Kasprzak to give ODU a 1-0 lead.
NMU countered, scoring in the 35th minute to tie the match 1-1 heading into halftime.
But the Panthers were able to seize control of the match early in the second half. In the 50th minute, Ebright found the back of the net on an assist from Wahle to take a 2-1 lead. Then just 56 seconds later, Kasprzak found the back of the net on an assist from Ebright to take a commanding 3-1 lead at the 50:35 mark of the second half. Hildebrand and the Panther defense held the Wildcats scoreless in the second half, earning the victory, 3-1.
Ohio Dominican will look to sustain its momentum when it travels to Walsh on Wednesday, October 12 for a GLIAC match beginning at 7 p.m. The Panthers defeated Walsh 6-1 on September 14.
