ASHLAND, Ohio — A goal in the 90th minute by Ohio Dominican sophomore Ryan Kasprzak (Hilliard, Ohio) was not enough for the Ohio Dominican men's soccer team on Sunday at Ashland, as the Panthers fell 2-1 to the Eagles in a GLIAC contest.
The Panthers (2-5-0, 2-3-0 GLIAC) outshot Ashland 14-12 overall while also holding a 9-7 edge in shots on goal. ODU was also able to earn eight corner kicks compared to one for Ashland.
Kasprzak finished with his fifth goal of the season, finding the back of the net for the second-straight match.
Senior Michael Fragoulis (Chios, Greece) recorded three shots on goal for the Panthers. Sophomore Babacar Ba (Columbus, Ohio) finished with two shots on goal, while sophomore Jorge Aldalla (Whitehall, Ohio) recorded three shots for Ohio Dominican.
Junior Clayton Hildebrand (Findlay, Ohio) recorded five saves at goalkeeper for the Panthers, allowing two goals overall.
After one half of scoreless soccer, Ashland broke the stalemate in the 55th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Then at the 67:01 mark, the Eagles extended their lead to 2-0.
But the Panthers rallied late, with Kasprzak scoring at the 89:45 mark, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Time however was not on Ohio Dominican's side, falling by a final score of 2-1.
ODU will hit the pitch at Panther Stadium on Wednesday, September 28 at 7 p.m. against Lake Erie in its next match.
