COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Dominican men's soccer team earned its first win of the 2016 season and also captured its first GLIAC victory of the year by defeating Northern Michigan 1-0 at Panther Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
ODU (1-1-0, 1-0-0 GLIAC) held a 6-3 shot on goal advantage and outshot the Wildcats 16-15 overall. The match marked the first meeting between Ohio Dominican and Northern Michigan (0-3-0, 0-1-0 GLIAC), with NMU in its inaugural men's soccer season.
The lone goal of the game came for Ohio Dominican at the 24:59 mark of the first half, when senior Brent Wahle (Pataskala, Ohio) scored in the middle of the box on assists from sophomore Ryan Kasprzak (Hilliard, Ohio) and senior Andrew Schwall (Gahanna, Ohio), giving the Panthers a decisive 1-0 lead, which they carried to the final whistle.
Kasprzak led the Panthers in shots (seven) and shots on goal (three). Wahle finished with one goal on two shots on goal for the contest. Sophomore Michael Smigel (Avon, Ohio) recorded two shots for the Panthers and senior Tanner Ebright (Pickerington, Ohio) also recorded one shot overall.
Junior goalkeeper Clayton Hildebrand (Findlay, Ohio) finished with three saves and went all 90 minutes at goalkeeper for ODU, earning a victory in his first start.
ODU will be back in action at home at Panther Stadium, this Wednesday, September 14 against Walsh, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
