COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's men's and women's golf teams are set to compete in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Fall Invitational Monday and Tuesday at the Pearl Club in Owensboro, Kentucky.
Last time out for the men, sophomore Ben Herman (Germantown, Ohio) played as an individual and posted the second lowest 18-hole round in school history with a 69 (-3) while also tying the 36-hole school record at 141 posting a 72 (E) on the final 18. A year ago at the Pearl Club, Herman had a pair of 75's sandwiched between a 77.
On the team side, fellow sophomore Robert Holden (Hertfordshire, England) has led the Panthers in both tournaments. In the Ohio Cup, Holden finished with rounds of 76 (+4) and 72 (E) and shot 74, 77, 75 a year ago at the G-MAC Fall Invitational.
Fellow sophomore Dalton Crowley (Nashport, Ohio) had the low round for the team last week shooting 71 (-1) in the second round after shooting 79 in round one. A year ago at this even, Crowley finished tied for 14th to lead the way as he shot 75 in round one followed by a 73 and 72 in rounds two and three.
The lone senior on the roster is Blake Saffell (Somerset, Ohio) who shot rounds of 72 and 80 a week ago at the Ohio Cup and last year at this event had scored of 75, 77 and 79. Rounding out the Panther five will be junior Alex Heban (Toledo, Ohio) who did not play in this event a year ago. Last week, Heban had a pair of 78's in the Ohio Cup.
On the women's side, the Panthers were fourth at the G-MAC Fall Invitational a year ago. A week ago, the Panther women finished third at the Michael Corbett Classic shooting 653 over the two rounds.
Seniors Abby Swensen (Milford, Ohio) and Bailey Krueger (Canal Winchester, Ohio) led the way for the Panthers as Swensen finished fifth with a pair of 78's and Krueger finished tied for 10th with a 79 and an 84. A year ago at the G-MAC Fall Invitational, Swensen finished tied for 27th shooting 75, 91 and 93 in the three rounds. Krueger led the way for the Panthers a year ago finishing tied for 13th with rounds of 83, 78 and 82.
Fellow senior Emma Romine (Marysville, Ohio) finished tied for 17th a week ago with rounds of 81 and 85. A year ago, Romine posted a first round 89 before shooting 80 and 84 in her final two rounds to finish tied for 24th.
Sophomores Alex Gomez (Morrow, Ohio) and Natalie Parker (Ostrander, Ohio) round out the Panther five. They did not play in the G-MAC Fall Invitational a year ago. Last week at the Michael Corbett Fall Classic, Gomez shot 82 and 86 to finish tied for 25th while Parker had a pair of 89's to finish tied for 54th.
Both tournaments will total three rounds at the Pearl club. The men will play 36 on Monday and finish with 18 on Tuesday while the women will play 27 holes each day.
