BLACKLICK, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's men's golf team took seventh place out of 17 competing teams and successfully hosted the 2017 ODU Kickoff Classic at Jefferson Country Club on Tuesday.
The 36-hole, one-day tournament saw 101 competitors represent 13 schools, with 17 competing teams overall.
Leading the way for Ohio Dominican was sophomore Blake Saffell (Somerset, Ohio), who shot a 148 (73-75) to place 11th overall. Saffell recorded the fourth-most birdies in the field with seven.
Sophomore Ryan Simi (Newark, Ohio) recorded a top 20 finish, shooting a 151 (74-77) to place in a tie for 17th. Simi finished in a tie for second in Par 5 scoring, averaging a 4.80 and shooting -2 on Par 5's for the tournament.
Finishing in a tie for 29th was junior Drew Wayman (Wapakoneta, Ohio), who came in with a 155 (74-81) and ranked third in Par 3 scoring with an average of 3.00.
Freshman Jack Rubin (Hilliard, Ohio) shot a 152 (75-77) to finish in a tie for 21st in his first tournament as a Panther. Rubin finished with a 36 (E) on the back nine of both rounds.
ODU men's golf will hit the course again on Monday, September 18 and Tuesday, September 19 for the Great Midwest Fall Championship at the Findlay Country Club.
