COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's Austin Goodridge (Lima, Ohio), Eric Thompson (Miamisburg, Ohio) and Ryan Thompson (Dunfermline, Scotland) were named NCAA Division II Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars for the 2016-17 academic year by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) on Wednesday.
Recipients of the award in Division II must meet a stringent set of criteria, including being a junior or senior academically, three full years of collegiate level competition, participation in 50-percent of the team's competitive rounds, a stroke-average under 78.0 and maintenance of a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. The GCAA requires that recipients are of high moral character and in good standing at their respective colleges or universities.
Ohio Dominican joins Malone, Findlay and Hillsdale as Great Midwest Athletic Conference institutions with student-athletes named to the GCAA's list, with ODU seeing a Great Midwest-best three student-athletes garnering awards. ODU also joins Ashland, Ferris State, Northwood and Tiffin as 2016-17 GLIAC competing schools with student-athletes earning All-America scholar awards, with the Panthers notching the second-most honorees in the conference.
Goodridge and Eric Thompson, who were named All-America scholars by the GCAA in 2015-16 as well, earned GLIAC Academic Excellence awards this spring, while Ryan Thompson garnered GLIAC All-Academic honors. Goodridge led the team in average round score at 76.9 for 2016-17 while recording five top 10 finishes and one top five finish on the season. Eric Thompson finished second the squad in scoring average at 77.2 while notching two top 10 finishes and one top five finish. Ryan Thompson finished with a career-low average round score of 77.3 and recorded the first two top 10 finishes of his Panther career.
Ohio Dominican kicks off the 2017-18 season with its Family and Friends Outing on Saturday, August 26 before hosting the ODU Kickoff Classic on Tuesday, September 5 at Jefferson Country Club in Blacklick, Ohio.
